			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The partners at Fidelity are getting ready to start another company, a warehouse / showroom style internet-based used car dealership. Since the beginning, Fidelity has bought, refurbished and remarketed printing equipment from around the world (one of the reasons we’ve been able to offer great quality at a great price). But with the increasing popularity of digital presses and the flat international economy, trade in printing equipment has slowed drastically.</p>
<p>The idea is to pool the marketing resources already in place at Fidelity and the purchasing and technical experience of partner Dan Oskin to be able to purchase and offer highline vehicles in a fun digital and physical environment.</p>
<p>But we’re stuck on the name and could use some creative help. We’d like it short enough to tell our story, emphasize the internet aspect of the dealership (we won’t be looking for folks to walk in off the street without an appointment), and have the .com tag available for the URL. <p>A mentor of mine a long way back once made a statement I&#8217;ve grown to disagree with: &#8220;We&#8217;re not in business to employ people!&#8221;</p>
<p>What if all of us blessed with the responsibility of running a company started to believe that at least part of the reason to grow a business was indeed to have the opportunity to employ more good people.</p>
<p>Instead of thinking how many people I can replace with a new piece of equipment, what if we thought how many more families our business could support if I replaced that piece of equipment with new people? I promise you from experience that a good person running a mediocre piece of equipment produces a much better product than a mediocre person running a good piece of equipment.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t employ people frivolously, hand out paychecks for nothing and stay in business. But you can put people and their families first; making them the last &#8220;resource&#8221; to be cut and the first &#8220;asset&#8221; to be invested in.</p>
<p>Instead of focusing on profits or stock value, which can be manipulated artificially for short term gain, what if we focused on providing a good place for as many people as possible to earn a good living? Finding and working with good people is a more difficult endeavor, but one with greater and longer-lasting rewards.</p>
<p>Over the last 3 years, Fidelity has dramatically expanded the services offered, added staff and cross-trained people. Thanks to all of you who have supported our efforts and helped to keep our company strong.</p>
<p>One of my favorite movies is Executive Suite from 1954. Take a look at the closing scene &#8230;a great debate on how to do business. Maybe a bit &#8220;cheesey&#8221; but I sure do like it!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In August 2009, I had my first hip replacement and was unable to drive for a couple weeks. Since I get most of my news from NPR on the car radio, I spent a bit of time detached from my usual daily dose of general media information.</p>
<p>If you remember, the funk of the economic situation was in its revelatory period at that time with never-ending stories of mismanagement, failure, and what seemed, at least to me, totally incompetent leadership from business and government. And while Fidelity was humming along in great shape, I was still infected with an overall malaise about our future&#8230; at least until my surgery.</p>
<p>Of course I had the usual discomfort of recovery, but surprisingly, I soon found myself feeling chipper and upbeat about Fidelity&#8217;s prospects. <strong>I realized the difference in my mood was due to two things: the removal of the daily repetition of information about the worst the country had to offer and second, a focus on the situation at hand &#8212; the one situation over which I had some control.</strong></p>
<p>As the economy and the news has continued to revel in self-pity, I&#8217;ve tried to balance the need to be informed with the necessity of looking at every challenge as an opportunity to learn, grow and expand our abilities to function and prosper in varied circumstances.</p>
<p>The process has grown our abilities, experience, talent and attitude. While the struggles for all of us are real and uncomfortable, they also provide opportunity for growth and development. And hey &#8212; the more we learn and grow, the better poised we will be to excel when the economy finally turns around. <img src='http://www.printfidelity.com/insider/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
